There are many other therapies that are brilliant for animals so I have listed below the ones that I think are the best (that are in addition to ones that are already on this website) with a brief explanation.
AcupunctureEnergy flows through the body along 14 pathways known as "meridians" and, although these usually closely follow the nervous system they are said not nerves. There are 12 meridians each duplicated on either side of the body and two others which run in the dorsal (top) and ventral (underneath) mid lines. Animals have these meridians as well as humans!! So acupuncturists place fine needles in the meridians to balance the energy which in turns brings health benefits such as well being and more oomph! Acupuncture is also brilliant for arthritis, muscle, joint and tendon problems and digestive problems. |
Animal ChiropracticAll animals may suffer from back, neck, pelvic and musculoskeletal problems at some time during their life. And like us, they may benefit from McTimoney treatment. Although it is mainly horses and dogs that have been treated, a huge variety of other animals have also benefited – cats, farm animals, birds, and variety of “exotics” - even an elephant! The McTimoney chiropractic technique, an ethical and respectful way in which to work with another species; most animals will accept it quite readily and many seem to really enjoy it. McTimoney chiropractic will align and balance the animal's musculoskeletal system very gently so the animals are calm which is so important – unlike when I go to my chiropractor and they have been in an arm lock to click in my back!! McTimoney is highly recommended by Sarah Fisher of Tellington Touch. I take my dogs to see Caroline Hicks every three months to keep them in alignment. http://www.mctimoney-college.ac.uk/page/21_For_Animals.html |
BowenBowen is a great treatment for animals because it is non-invasive - a Bowen practitioner makes small, rolling movements over the muscles and tendons at precise points. This was used on Milie very successfully by Carole when she had cancer to support her body and her back legs. Carole Justice – www.baobab-balanced-beings.com

Dog MassageI know this gives you a mental picture of a dog at a massage parlour, but dog massage can help arthritis, discomfort, help the removal of toxins and has many more benefits. I first met Natalie on a Tellington Touch course and we became firm friends with me attending one of her courses which was great fun! |
Tellington TouchTellington Touch (or TTouch as it is also known as) is absolutely fantastic and I am a fan especially after I attended a course run by Sarah Fisher who is a world renowned animal behaviourist and author. Sarah set up Tellington Touch UK near Bath and since then has gone from strength to strength. TTouch was originally developed by Linda Tellington Jones and can assist training and overcome behavioural problems in a positive and healing way. TTouch uses circular movements of the fingers and hands all over the body and is so simple, but yet, effective to use. It is ideal for the owner to use on their animals which gives them a special bond. It seems so simple and you wonder “how on earth it works” but is does very successfully!!! I use TTouch with all my dogs all the time, especially if they are anxious, due at the vets or are stressed for any reasons (e.g. car sickness). When my beloved Milie passed over, I was honoured enough to spend her last few hours doing TTouch to help her pass peacefully – it was very beautiful experience for both of us. |
VetsIt is very difficult to find a vet that won't instantly reach for the antibiotics and want an expensive xray! I have had contact with both these vets who offer alternatives as well as mainstream advice.
